Autumn 4th Quarter 2011
Sept 30 to Dec 23

NEW CLASSES ADDED TO OUR STUDIO OFFERINGS!
See our schedule for class days and times.

-- Juniors and adults  Taikabudo class:
Our Taikabudo class usually has sessions for Juniors only and Adults only....but in this class, adults and juniors can train together in the same class! This is great for parents who want to learn martial arts alongside their child or current students who want extra practice and instruction. Ages 8 and above.

-- Doce Pares Eskrima: This exciting Filipino art of Stick, knife, and empty hand fighting methods comes from a direct lineage Doce Pares Eskrima through Grandmaster Cacoy Canete of Cebu City, Philippines. Taught by Guro Amy Koeniger and Guro Matt Brain, this class features stick patterns and forms, knife techniques and self defense methods as passed down by Grandmaster Cacoy Canete (of Cebu City, Philippines) and Master Christopher Petrilli.

-- Beginners 1 Wushu class:  This class is for those who are new to martial arts and want to learn Wushu, the art featured on such movies as the new "Karate Kid". Basic stances, movement combinations, fundamental techniques and fitness training methods will be introduced. This class is taught by Assistant Coach Michael Damasco.

--"Taikabudo"- Mixed Martial Art:
This is not the sport "MMA" that is popular nowadays, This is an effective blend of Kajukenbo (America's first original 'mixed martial art'), Northern and Southern methods of Wushu, Southeast Asian fighting methods, and Tai Chi. This active and diverse class uses modern and traditional training methods to teach effective self defense, self discipline, coordination, and fitness. A perfect compliment to a Wushu or Eskrima player's training.

--Monthly free meditation group:  Not a class per se, but a gathering of people that like to meditate or are interested in learning about the practice of meditation. No experience required, all styles of meditation are welcome, all ages welcome. We will show beginners simple meditation techniques to start their practice. Learn about different meditation methods and how to use sound (Tibetan singing bowls, tuning forks, etc). Each session is meant to be a unique experience. See this link for more information about our free monthly group sessions:
http://www.seattlewushucenter.org/monthlyopenmeditation.htm

--Monthly free Qigong Practice:  No previous experience with Qigong required. "Qigong" loosely translates as "breathing skills" or "energy work". Through breathing techniques, specialized movement, intention, and visualization, participants practice to "reconnect" to their bodies, minds and the environment. Qigong has long been utilized as a health practice in China, and is a wonderful way to promote good health and self healing. Sifu Restita will share popular Qigong methods and forms that anyone can practice anytime and anywhere.

NEW!! --Learning the art of the Bullwhip- Free Study Group:  No previous experience required. An age old tool for stock handlers, the whip is also a wonderful tool for enhancing timing, body coordination, dexterity, rhythm, and preciseness....all which are elements for good martial arts. In fact, the whip has been a tool used for training in some styles of Filipino Martial Arts and Shaolin Kung Fu. You don't have to be a martial artist to learn the whip, but it is a great tool to enhance your skills! Sifu Restita will coach participants through safety precautions, basic history of whip use and its evolvment into "whip artistry", and 5 basic cracks. As participants gain skill, she will share how to string together short sequences of multiple cracks ("flashes"), how to follow angles and change angles smoothly, how to use footwork, targeting, etc. This group will meet on the 3rd sunday of each month. Interested individuals can email Sifu Restita to reserve a spot in the group. Due to space constraints, we are limited to 12 people maximum. Sifu will have some low quality whips to start beginners with, but all participants will be responsible for eventually obtaining their own personal whip.

NEW!! --Blowgun Enthusiasts Club:  The Northwest Blowgun Enthusiasts are sport targeting blowdart shooters. Anyone ages 8 and older can learn to use the blowgun, an apparatus used by many cultures since ancient times. See the blowgun website here: http://nwsportblowgun.webs.com  . Practices are held on a "who's available" basis...usually on weekend times. Announcements for practices are usually sent as emails or text messages to member's phones.
