Mixed Juniors/Adults Kung Fu class!!
On more than one occasion, we've been asked if we had any mixed classes where parents could train in the same class as their child, for the sake of convenience.

This class is perfect for:
-Parents that would like to learn alongside their child
-Busy people that are only available on Saturdays and would like a martial arts workout
-Current Kung Fu students who want more training time
-Kung Fu students who want to make up a class that they missed during the week.

Parents and other family members of a *current* student are only $25 per month, per person. Monthly tuition is based on once-a-week attendance at standard family discount (1/2 price of regular $65 tuition).

Infrequent drop-ins by family members is $10 per class attended (once or twice a month). Keep in mind, however, that infrequent attendance might result in not retaining the information or developing skills in an effective manner.

For new students who choose this class and wish to attend these specifically (meaning, without a parent or a child), the monthly tuition would be based on regular once-a-week attendance, and you may occasionally drop in to any of the tues/thurs age categorized classes for only $5. Additional class attendance tuition will be based on number of classes you'd like to attend per week.

AND........ More cool news!

For our Mighty mites class, we are opening the entire Mighty Mites class to parents who want to train and learn alongside with their children....its so much funner than watching! :) For parents that wish to train with their child, it is $5 per drop in. Be a part of your child's training, get some great exercise, and learn a great skill as well! This new change is effective immediately!

Student Uniform Requirements
UNIFORM SHIRTS: As of 2011, all students will be required to have at least one official school uniform shirt. You may choose from our plain white T, baseball jersey, polo shirt, or sweatshirt. Students will still be allowed to wear plain white t-shirts, but in following the tradition of "uniform", students should have a school shirt. Sweatpants will still be allowed, but it is suggested that students do have karate or kung fu pants as well.

SHOES are highly suggested in all classes, for safety reasons.  While it is the student's choice as to whether or not to wear shoes, in the practice of self defense or weapons work it is possible to get a foot stepped on or dropping a weapon on one's foot. Shoes will provide some protection against injury. If you do choose to go without shoes, keep in mind that it is your decision to do so, and we suggest that you do not wear socks.....socks can be slippery on our carpet, and it is common that ill fitting socks will come off or partially come off and be tripped upon.

Acceptable shoes: Wrestling shoes, indoor soccer shoes, light sneakers (keds), martial arts shoes (may be ordered through Sifu DeJesus). Please choose black, dark blue or white shoes, as multi colored or bright colored shoes will not match our uniforms well.

There have been a few shoes orders where the wrong sizes were sent to our studio....Sifu is taking care of that. Please be patient and we'll get the correct sized shoes to you.

BELTS or SASHES: If you have a rank in class, you are required to wear your rank. Kids, your uniform and your belt are your responsibility, not your parents. For all students, if you forget your belt or any other uniform item, you will line up at the lowest ranking end of the line at the beginning and end of class, and will not be permitted to drive back home or send your parent back home to retrieve your forgotten items.

Our full online store is here....visit to order your uniform items:

Free study group!

The Whip: Artistry & Martial Applications

Sifu DeJesus has been keenly interested in the use of the Bullwhip as a martial arts tool and as a means of training coordination, concentration, timing, rhythm, relaxed yet dynamic form, and the sense of "following" energy. To "crack" a bullwhip requires timing and precision, not strength or speed....and to hear the "crack" of a properly thrown whip is an exhilarating experience! Our study group club, "Seattle SnapDragons, is open to anyone over the age of 8 years old and no prior experience is necessary. We will teach you the basic whip cracks and progress into more intricate whip tricks and target tricks. This study group meets every 3rd Sunday of the month, 5 to 7 pm. We have several whips for beginners to borrow, however if new members want to study whip artistry seriously, members will need to purchase their own bullwhips (whip makers and suppliers listed on regisration page).

Click the link below to get more information about this study group club and to register:

Slow motion footage of the the forming of the "rolling loop" that travels down the length of the whip and causes the "crack".

Special Events, Classes, Performances:

Monthly FREE events!

Qigong:

Held each 2nd Sunday morning of each month at 11 am, this gathering allows participants to experience the benefits of Qigong ("breathing skills" or "Energy Work"). By using controlled breathing techniques, soft movement, intention, and visualization, we allow our bodies to circulate "Qi" (life force), relax, and loosen up with gentle movements. The practice of Qigong is known to keep the body healthy, provide relaxing and meditative states, enhance concentration, and allow the body to enhance its own natural healing ability. No previous experience in Qigong is required....beginners always welcome! Open to all persons ages 7 and older. Persons will mobility issues are welcome, as we can modify all exercises to accommodate seated participants.  All sessions are free of charge, however donations are gladly accepted for use of the space.

Meditation:

On the last Sunday evening of every month, Sifu Restita will host "Seika Circle", an open meditation/circle of intent gathering, from 5 to 6 pm at Seattle Wushu Center. Everyone of all ages is welcome, no experience required. All sessions are free, however donations are gladly accepted for use of the space.

Bodyworkers, energy workers of all modalities, martial artists, yoga practitioners, Tai Chi players, young and old, anyone who wants to practice their chosen mode of meditation are welcome to join us! Even if you have no experience in meditation, join us in monthly wonderful times of awareness, "mental recess", and fellowship! We'll help you get started on simple meditation exercises!

Sometimes we'll ask one of the experienced people to share one of their meditation methods with us for truly invigorating learning experience! Zhan Zhuang, Gassho meditation, Zazen, Dhyana, Tibetan bowl meditation....all methods and styles are welcome here.

Please bring a cushion or zabuton to sit on, or if you have a meditation bench feel free to bring that. We have some chairs and optional "seating" for those who cannot sit on the floor for extended periods. Please wear comfortable clothing that is not too tight.

All sessions will start with simple warmups or Qigong breathing led by Sifu Restita, followed by group meditation while seated in a circle (or groups of circles, depending on number of participants). Some sessions will be silent, some with meditation music, some with bowl tones....each session is meant to be unique!

After sessions, feel free to join us at the Chinese restaurant next door for tea, snacks, and socializing!

While many of us may already benefit from the welcome respite of our "thinking and logical" mind with daily solo meditation, it is also a wonderful experience to come together in concert to share the activity of meditation, energy and compassion, and gaining new friends.

Please email me at seattlewushu@gmail.com to let me know of your interest in this ongoing monthly event.  bring your cushions, meditation benches, bowls, etc.and come sit with us!
