Susan Rhodes, Jiao Lian Coach: Yang style Tai Chi
Seattle Wushu Center
<Picture coming soon>
In Susan's own words....
I began studying Tai Chi in 2002 when I went to the doctor for what felt like the 100th
time for high blood pressure and complications from medications. My
doctor mentioned that she’d heard that Tai Chi practice can lower a
person’s blood pressure. On the way home I went past the Yin Yang Arts
Center and there was a student painting on the window…NOW ENROLLING and a
phone number. I decided it was fate, and called from my cell phone
while stopped at the light. I knew nothing about Tai Chi, but I was
desperate for a way to become healthier and lead a more balanced life.I
took my first lesson a couple of weeks later, and never stopped. My
eyes were opened to the world of martial arts that I found both
fascinating and extremely rewarding. I love the fact that I can study
and practice and continue to gain skill on new levels for the rest of my
life. I’ve learned about myself, my health, and another culture. I’ve
learned how the art aspect of martial arts connects to my design
profession. And I’ve made some fantastic friends through the process. I’ve
studied Tai Chi, Qigong and meditation under Sifu Restita DeJesus for
the past 8 years. I love to share what I’ve learned with others.
Teaching is a beautiful way to reinforce and develop my own skills to a
deeper level while sharing with other people.
